Together with seven partners, Cluster Sports & Technology managed to win a European project in which an exergame around a sports orientation system (SportKompas) will be developed. With this project, we want to offer children a sports orientation and improve their movement skills with digital technologies in the sports and education sector.
What does the SPEX project entail?
This European project aims to encourage children (aged 8-10) to move more thanks to a good sports orientation by SportKompas and in the form of a new exergame!
For this, we are working together with 7 parties: KAMK University (Finland), HAN University (Netherlands), UISP (Italy), Verde Klaster (Poland), Sportcamp (Greece), SportaMundi (Belgium) and EPSI (Belgium). SportaMundi is the leader of this project and thus takes on the coordinator role. The project has a budget of 400 000 euros, divided among the eight partners. Together we will use this to increase children’s sports participation, improve their motor skills and reduce drop-outs in sports clubs in the various countries. An ambitious project needs ambitious goals!
How will the trajectory go?
- First, we will start with a 3-day training for all our partners to immerse them in SportKompas. KAMK University will lead a brainstorm on the exergame during 1 of these 3 days;
- Our partners in Greece, Italy, Finland and Poland are testing SportKompas in a small groups of children.
- Meanwhile, research is being conducted by HAN University on the different methods worldwide to measure exercise skills.
- Our various foreign partners test SportKompas with a larger groups (minimum 200 pupils per country).
- Simultaneously, the exergame is being developed by KAMK University in Finland.
- KAMK University will also prepare a pedagogical model for teachers to teach the SportKompas exergame and integrate it into the curriculum.
- Next, each partner tests the exergame on a small groups of children.
- Feedback is collected and processed throughout the process, and quality is checked at all times.
Cluster Sports &Technology supports the development of the exergames and involves its cluster partners.
The project started in September 2022 and will run for 2 years. We will keep you updated on our progress through our blogs!
